IBM Rational Application Developer

Rational Application Developer (RAD ) is an integrated development environment from IBM for the development and analysis of web, web services, Java, J2EE and portal applications. IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software optimized, but also supports runtime environments from different vendors and is based on the open source Eclipse platform, allowing developers to customize and extend their development environment.

RAD replaces the older product Websphere Studio Application Developer ( WSAD ), which is also based on Eclipse. The version number was continued for renaming, so the first version of RAD has the number 6.0. The current version is 8.5.

Rational Application Developer is an Eclipse -based integrated development environment that helps Java developers in the design, development and deployment of their Java applications. It includes specialized wizards, editors and validators for various technologies:

RAD includes tools to improve the quality of the code - static and dynamic code analysis, Java profiling tool, line code coverage, etc.

To manage source code development teams Rational Application Developer can configure it to work with a source code repository system. The product is supplied with connectors for IBM Rational ClearCase for source control and IBM Rational ClearQuest for defect management. From Rational Application Developer Version 7.5 and Rational Team Concert source control, defect management and team work can be used.

The workbench includes tools for deploying an application to a local or remote server. It includes built-in test environments for IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM WebSphere Portal and thus allows a local deploy and test the applications. It supports Apache Tomcat and other application server.

Because Rational Application Developer is Eclipse -based, it supports third-party plug -ins for Eclipse, as well as specially developed for Rational Tools plug-ins.
