ICA AB

Inköpscentralernas Aktiebolaget (short ICA) is a Swedish group of companies headquartered in Solna, which operates among others in the food retail trade.

History

ICA goes back to 1917 by Hakon Swenson founded in Västerås Shopping Community Hakonbolaget, the independent grocers should bring the same economies of scale in purchasing, as they have chain stores. Following the same principle as Hakonbolaget many other shopping communities were founded. The actual ICA AB was formed in 1938 through a merger of several of these purchasing groups. 1940 ICA Förbundet was founded in the membership organization for ICA retailers. Originally, this association had no shares in ICA AB, but he rose to 1972 the main shareholders on. In 2000 half of the company was sold to the Dutch company Royal Ahold.
