ICI House

The ICI House, which is now called Orica House, is a 20-storey office building in the eastern Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. It was after its completion in 1958, the tallest building in Australia and the first skyscraper was Australia's glazed envelope in its entirety. This design was then decisive for the development of city centers in Australia. The glazed tower was taken on September 25, 2005 in the Australian National Heritage List and also in the Victoria Heritage List as worth protecting.

It was built in the period from 1955 to 1958, and symbolizes the openness of Australia after the Second World War and it should show at the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 to the world that Australia has an open mind to the usual standard of building in the world.

The design of the building dates from Sir Osborne McCutcheon and followed the trend that began with the building of the United Nations Headquarters in the USA.

In the building there is the Australian company Orica, which is listed on the stock index S & P / ASX 50 and produces different types of explosives, and other chemical products.
