Male Red-winged Blackbird ( Agelaius phoeniceus )

The blackbirds ( Icteridae ) are a species-rich and form rich family in the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ) in 24 genera.

Blackbirds are found exclusively in the New World. From North America to Central America to South America they live in many different habitats. Most species live in forests or wooded areas, others live in open areas, gardens, deserts, scrubland or in swamps.

The females are smaller than males. One of the smallest species of Reisstärling ( Dolichonyx oryzivorus ) is about 18 to 20 centimeters. The largest species with 42 to 45 inches is the male Olivstirnvogel ( Psarocolius viridis).

The forehead birds have specialized in fruits as food, while most Icterids insects prefer. Some species are omnivorous and not above smaller vertebrates.

The starlings, there are some types that are like the cuckoo brood parasites, such as the cowbird.
