Overview

IDHEAP is certified by the Confederation and at the international level ( EAPAA ) and a center for interdisciplinary basic and applied research, which participates in the scientific independence of the national and international research networks for the public sector. According to the company, it concentrates on the study of public administration, an interdisciplinary field (Public Administration) with the aim to develop the scientific knowledge about the management of public affairs and the management of the institutions responsible for it. This knowledge is based on several disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, such as the law, economics, management and political science, adapted to the specificities of public and quasi-government sector. IDHEAP is the only dedicated this knowledge area Swiss higher education institution.

Target

At the interface between theory and practice, IDHEAP wants to be the national excellence pool, which contributes to the analysis of mutations of the public sector and to better governance of law at all levels, in complete cooperation with Swiss and foreign university partners.

Task

IDHEAP sets the threefold task in the service of their students, the public sector and society as a whole:

  • At the level of the master and post-master accredited college education as well as high quality training of civil and elected cadres;
  • Recognized at national and international level and the Swiss public sector recovered basic and applied research in public administration;
  • Estimated by the contracting public bodies and the training and research activities enriching expertise and advice.

History

The founders

IDHEAP was created in the form of a " Foundation for a Graduate Institute of Public Administration ". Its initiator is Enrico Bignami, former delegate of the board of Nestlé and creator of IMEDE, which has since become the IMD, in Lausanne- Ouchy. The founders include the Canton of Vaud, the University of Lausanne, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne and the Association of Friends of IDHEAP.

25 -year history

1981 saw the establishment of the Foundation on April 23. After the agreement with the UNIL (University of Lausanne) courses began on October 5 at BFSH first opened in 1983, the Research Center on the Avenue de Provence and the agreement with the federal Office of Personnel was signed. Recognition by the Confederation took place in 1987. During the same year a computer science hall was created. In 1990, the cooperation agreement came with the European Institute of Public Administration in Maastricht ( EIPA ) and two years later the settlement in the Vieux- Collège in Chavannes- près -Renens.

In 2000, the performance contract with the Canton of Vaud and the Swiss Confederation was enacted and initiated in 2001, the cooperation agreement with the National School of Public Administration in Quebec ( ENAP ). 2003 the " Semestrialisierung " training and cooperation agreement with the Center for Public Management at the University of Bern came about. Agreements with the Instituto Nacional de Admintração ( INA) in Lisbon, Portugal and the University of Sun Yat-sen (Zhongshan ) in Canton, China were implemented in 2005. In the same year, the accreditation of the MPA through the EAPAA ( European Association for Public Administration Accreditation ) and the accreditation of the IDHEAP by the Swiss University Conference, subsequent to the report of the OAQ ( Accreditation and Quality Assurance of the Swiss Universities organ ). 2006, the courses of the first Bologna Masters were opened in Public Policy and Management (Master PMP) on October 18.
