If (island)

The Ile d'If is a small uninhabited island in the Mediterranean, about 1.5 kilometers west of the French coastal city of Marseille.

The rocky island belongs to the group of Friuli Islands, is about 280 meters long and 80 meters wide. It is dominated by the Château d'If, a fortress from the 16th century.

The island and the local prison was known primarily for his novel "The Count of Monte Cristo" the writer Alexandre Dumas.
