If U Seek Amy (English for: "If you are looking for Amy " ) is a song by American pop singer Britney Spears from her album Circus, which was produced by Max Martin.

Background

Contrary to many speculations of the media, for the third single from Circus will either Out from Under or Unusual You and thus chosen a ballad, the choice fell on the beat -heavy pop song If U Seek Amy. This was announced on January 7, 2009, Spears' official website.

Produced and written was the song by Max Martin, who is responsible for Spears' debut and breakthrough ... Baby One More Time, but also for many other commercially successful songs at the beginning of the career of the singer. Here, Martin called before the publication of the Circus album, If U Seek Amy as his best work ever.

The chorus of Single Spears sings: " [ ... ] love me, hate me, [ ... ] all of the boys and all of the girls are beggin 'to if you seek Amy" what at first seems to make no sense. In the song, however, " If you seek Amy" is sung so quickly and without pausing between words, that this passage to "FUCK Me " sounds. By critics, where it was aware even before the album's release, saw the single topic of conversation. With the announcement of the third single release and thus for automatic radio publication, to presenters, journalists, parents and attorneys from the United States reported to the word by which a radio publication in the selfsame land should be prohibited. The song is " public danger " and would threaten the youth. In the end, they decided to play the song as If U See Amy on the radio.

Reception

Even with the album's release in early December to If U Seek Amy was 100 at number 86 due to high download figures in the U.S. Billboard Hot.

With rising download sales and airplay, the single numbers could climb to No. 19 of the U.S. Billboard charts and reached gold status for more than 700,000 copies sold. To date, the single was certified platinum in the United States and therefore sold more than one million times. In the UK, the single was able to reach number 20 on the charts.
