IFK Östersund
IFK Östersund is a Swedish sports club from Östersund. The club is best known for its football team, which played a total of 1953-1970 eleven seasons in the second division.
History
The IFK Östersund was founded in 1906 as a local branch of the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna. 1949, the football team of the club was promoted to the third division, where she soon established himself in the front Ligabreich. After 1952 behind Västerås SK managed the runner-up, she stepped in the following year due to a league reform - the number of second division seasons was increased - as a table for the first time in the second division on Fourth. Without loss during the season managed IFK Östersund 1957 direct resurgence and IELT with one point ahead of relegated Gefle IF in the subsequent season the class. 1959 were missing three points on league leaders IFK Luleå to participate in the promotion round to the Allsvenskan. The team of IFK Östersund fluctuated in the third division in their performances. Behind Gefle IF, Skellefteå AIK and IF Friska Viljor took the club last place in the promotion round and thus missed the return to the second division. Mid-1990 it went downhill again with IFK Östersund and 1994, the club rose again from the Viertklassigkeit. Following the successful comeback of direct re- descent followed. Order to concentrate efforts, it was decided in Ostersund the first teams of three local clubs Ope IF, IFK Östersund Östersund and / Torvalla FF merge. Therefore, in October 1996, went to the first team of the club in the newly founded Östersund FK. Since the new club took over the starting position of Ope IF in the third-tier Division 2 Norrland, retained IFK Östersund 1997 the starting place in the fourth division Division 3 Mellersta Norrland.
After a mid-table in the first year after the merger, the IFK Östersund dismounted in the fifth league the following year. There, the team established in the front league area back in the Bundesliga 2001 with 20 wins out of 22 games this season and 124 goals scored, the league was dominated without loss of the season against local rivals Ope IF. The strength continued into the following season and with six points on the space occupied by IFK Sundsvall second rank marched the club to the third tier.
