Geography

Geographical location

The territory of Igensdorf lies in the Franconian Alb on the southwestern edge of the Franconian Switzerland nature park Veldenstein Forest and is characterized by the floodplains of Schwabach, the Lillach and the trunk stream. The highest elevations are the Hetzleser mountain ( 549 m above sea level. NN ), the Eberhard Berg ( 533.5 m above sea level. NN ) with the Natural Monument Devil's Table and the cows mountain ( 521 m above sea level. NN ) with the western spur Mitteldorfer mountain ( 507 m above sea. NN and the Postal Hainburg ). The lowest point is the area around the sewage treatment plant Upper Schwabach with about 314 m above sea level. NN.

Climate

Due to the favorable climatic conditions Igensdorf is one of the largest cherry growing regions in Germany.

History

General

On April 14, 1109 Igensdorf was named as Diedungsdorf, probably after a tribal leader named Dieto, in the confirmation bull, Re, the foundation of the monastery Weißenohe, issued by Pope Paschal II, first mentioned. It was the beginning of the 16th to the beginning of the 19th century nürnbergischen Pflegamt Hiltpoltstein. On January 30, 1804 Igensdorf became Prussian, since it was added to the Prussian stronghold Baierdorf. With the Act of Confederation, in 1806 the city became part of Bavaria. 1809 Igensdorf was briefly Austrian, thereafter until 1811, when it came to Graefenberg and thus again was Bavarian, French.

Formation of the new community Igensdorf

On January 1, 1972, the formerly independent communities roof city, trunk stream and Stöckach were incorporated in the course of municipal reform in the newly formed community Igensdorf. Only Frohnhof was assigned to the market Eckental from 1 June 1972, as a vote. Originally the community Igensdorf should be allocated to the Management Community Graefenberg. Twinning

On 26 September 1992, the partnership between the municipality of Saint -Martin- la -Plaine and the market Igensdorf was closed in a ceremony. Since there are close contacts in the fields of culture, club life and the student and youth exchanges.

St. Martin la Plaine is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Lyon and has about 3500 inhabitants. Its area is about 970 hectares. The average altitude is 430 meters above sea level. The area around St. Martin la Plaine is dominated by agricultural use, orchards and vineyards. The partner community has a long tradition in metalwork. Today, most shops are closed, you just have operated with ironwork.

Culture and sights

The community Igensdorf carries a music school. Every year the Igensdorfer culture summer with numerous concert events with predominantly classic music.

In the districts of upper trunk stream and Pettensiedel some artists have settled. Worth seeing is the built in 1687 and renovated in 2006, St. George's Church, especially its interior.

A new cultural highlight is the Sun and Planet. In a smaller scale, the distances between the planets and the sun are shown. The elements have been configured by the artist Dieter Erhard.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the main road and two at the Gräfenbergbahn (R21 ). In Igensdorf the state road branches off from 2236 to Forchheim. Stations are Weidenbühl ( Station Trunk Bach), Igensdorf and Weißenohe.
