IGESPAR

The Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Archaeological, Instituto Público ( IGESPAR ), German " Institute for the management of archaeological and architectural heritage, National Institute ", is a Portuguese authority. It shall perform the duties of a heritage authority.

As part of a program for the restructuring of the central administration of the State ( PRACE ), the government decided under Prime Minister Sócrates merging the previously responsible for the conservation authority Instituto Português do Património Arquitectónico ( IPPAR ) with the National Archaeological Institute (Instituto Português de Archeology, IPA) and parts of the General Directorate of the National monuments ( DirecçãoGeral dos EDIFICIOS e Monumentos Nacionais, demn ) to the newly founded Instituto de Gestão do Património Arquitectónico e Archaeological, IP. The restructuring took place in 2007 /2008.

By law, the IGESPAR is "for the management, protection, preservation and appreciation of the goods to be responsible, which, through its historical, artistic, scenic, scientific, social and technical significance of a part of the architectural and archaeological heritage. "

As part of the restructuring of the state conservation tasks are subordinate to the IGESPAR among other directly, the Portuguese National Library ( Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal), the General Directorate of Arts ( DirecçãoGeral dos Artes) and the General Inspectorate for Cultural Activities ( Inspecção - Geral the Actividades Culturais ), also were affiliated, the cinema and Audi Vision Institute (Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual, IP) and the Institute of Museums and Conservation (Instituto dos Museus e because of Conservation, IP) - the IGESPAR also the Portuguese Cinema Museum ( Museum do Cinema, IP A Cinemateca ).

Seat of IGESPAR is the Palácio Nacional da Ajuda, where the predecessor authority IPPAR already was home.
