Igor Sacharow-Ross

Igor Sakharov Ross ( * 1947 in Khabarovsk ) is one of the pioneers in the field of interdisciplinary art making. He traced the cross-border guiding principle of syntopy, ie the networking of knowledge, experience and ability of different social sub- areas such as science, art, business, politics, etc. in the era of a global information society.

Igor Sakharov Ross was born in Khabarovsk / USSR, the exile of his parents, near the Chinese border. He studied at the Pedagogical University in Khabarovsk, where he worked after receiving his diploma as a teacher and went without permission of the authorities in 1971 to Leningrad / St Petersburg. Soon he belonged to the non-conformist art scene and held in secret the first happenings and performances in the country at all, which led to his expatriation first to political persecution, and finally 1978.

His works, then even sound body objects were seen on the few possible, co-initiated by him exhibitions of unofficial art. They attracted the attention about the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, at the Arts Club of Washington, at the Venice Biennale (1977) and the National Museum of Art in Tokyo (1978).

The early exploration of the artist with the concept of nature is shaped by the youth experiences in the Siberian taiga. Igor Sakharov Ross understands nature as the field of action of elemental forces, which may be beneficial as destructive alike.

Since the 80s Sakharov Ross works with molecular structures, such as cancer cells and leaf shapes. Even then, the artist sought scientific knowledge with humanities considerations to join.

Since the 90 - years his projects have extended more and more space as well as the content. Against the background of syntopy - thought he develops artistic expression, for a cross-media communication at the interface of aesthetic and everyday thoughts and actions.

Igor Sakharov Ross lives and works in Cologne and Munich.
