Igors Stepanovs

Igor Stepanov ( born January 21, 1976 in Ogre, Soviet Union, now Latvia, Russian Игорь Николаевич Степанов, Igor Nikolaevich Stepanov ) is a Latvian football player.

Career

His footballing career started Stepanov at Skonto Riga, where he played from 1995 to 2000. Then undertook Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger the central defender as a replacement for the injured Tony Adams. In London, however, he did not make the breakthrough and came in three seasons, only two missions, so he was loaned for the 2003/ 04 season for KSK Beveren in Belgium. After just one season Igors Stapanovs then moved to Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he was a regular on two seasons and enters also seven games in the UEFA Cup. Towards the end of the second season, he was after a violent conduct, which earned him four game suspension, optional. Then he moved to the 2006/07 season for Serie A club FK Jurmala Latvia and half a year later, in January 2007, after Denmark to Esbjerg fB. In a further change of club in March 2008 to the Russian club Yaroslavl Schinnik a renewed transfer followed only four months later, back in his Latvian homeland for FK Olimps Riga.

Igor Stepanov's played from 2002 to 2009 a total of 99 times for the Latvian national football team, scoring four goals. He participated in the 2004 European Football Championship, retired in Latvia in the first round. The only point gain succeeded Latvians 0-0 against Germany in the Stepanov shone with strong defensive performances.

On 10 August 2011, he came to his 100th international game, but denied doing only the first 5 minutes of the game against Finland.
