Igualada

Igualada ( cat. [ iɣwəɫaðə ] ) is a town with 38 978 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) in the province of Barcelona in Catalonia, in northeastern Spain. The city is situated on the left bank of the river Anoia, a tributary of the Llobregat, and is bordered to the north by the railway line Igualada - Martorell -Barcelona. It is located about 60 km northwest of the city of Barcelona.

Igualada is the center of a rich agricultural and wine-growing region and the capital of the comarca of Anoia.

Significant industries are to be found in the fields of cotton and textiles, soap, leather and nails.

Culture and sights

The city is known for its old town with its narrow and winding streets and the remains of an old fortress. The "New Town", however, is built much more modern.

In the town is the only leather museum in Spain.

The famous monastery of Montserrat mountain located about 20 km east of the city.
