Igus

The igus GmbH is a manufacturer of plastic plain bearings and power chains made ​​of solid plastic and flexible specialty cables. All products are manufactured by injection molding. Since 1991, igus also manufactures cables for applications in energy chains.

History

The company was founded on 15 October 1964 by Günter and Margret bubble in a double garage in Cologne- Mülheim. In the first 20 years, igus worked as a supplier of technical plastic parts. 1983 began with CEO Frank Blase own production of energy chain systems and bearings as well as the network of sales engineers. From 1985 to 2012, igus has grown from 40 to 2,175 employees, who are now spread across 31 offices worldwide.

The main factory in Cologne was designed by Nicholas Grimshaw; basic architectural concept of the building is the "fast change" idea. All the walls in the building are easily removable. There are separate offices, everyone uses the same facility. The company provides students, teachers or professors in technical studies project support to the Young Engineers Support (YES).

Igus is the world's largest manufacturer of energy chain systems with special cables, connectors and all accessories with over 100,000 products in stock. This includes cables, made-up energy supply systems, semi-finished, multi-axis joints for robots as well as plain, spherical, linear and ball bearings.

Competitions

Since 2003, every two years a joint initiative of the Institute for Composite Materials GmbH Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences, the magazine industry indicators and igus GmbH competition by manus, 2011 for the first time worldwide. manus records applications with plastic bearings.
