Ihľany

Ihľany is a municipality northeast of Kežmarok with 1430 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011) in eastern Slovakia.

It was formed in 1960 through the merger of the following municipalities:

  • Stotince ( German Hodermark, before 1920 Hundred market, Hundred Acre; Hungarian Száztelek since 1907, first reference in 1307 )
  • Majerka ( German since 1927 Meier courts, first reference in 1307, was spun off from the congregation Ľubica before 1895 and was called to 1961 Ihlanovce ).

It lies on the western slopes of the mountains Levočské ( Levočské Hills ) and mostly in the lowlands of Hollomnitz Brook ( Holumnický Potok ) east of the city Spisská Bela. Its name refers to the mountain Ihla ( German "needle", 1,284 m), located east of the town.
