Ihsahn

Ihsahn ( born 1975 in Notodden as Vegard Sverre Tveitan ) is a Norwegian composer, guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and singer. He is best known as the frontman of the black metal band Emperor. With his wife, Heidi S. Tveitan he played in Peccatum. In April 2006, his solo debut The Adversary appeared.

Life

Ihsahn aka Vegard Sverre Tveitan was born in 1975 and grew up on a large farm in Telemark. With seven years he made with the piano the first musical steps until he got a guitar at age ten and began to compose his first own songs. Three years later he took part in a music seminar and found Tomas " Samot " Haugen, with whom he formed the band Thou Shalt Suffer. Since Haugen soon got out of the project, remained Tveitan (then known as Ygg ) as the only member. A little later, in the spring of 1991, Ygg, Samot and Håvard " Mortiis " Ellefsen started the band Emperor and recorded their first demo Wrath of the Tyrant on.

1995 acted Ihsahn on project Zyklon -B from Haugen, who now called himself Samoth with. One of the three pieces of their single EP Blood Must Be Shed was later re-released as a remix on a split 7 " with Mayhem.

After Samoth and Emperor drummer Bård "Faust" Eithun were sentenced to prison terms, Ihsahn retired to an estate of his parents to compose there Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, which recorded after Samoths dismissal with Trym on drums and Alver on bass and was published in 1997. In the same year Ihsahn released a CD with the demo recordings of Thou Shalt Suffer. With his wife Ihriel founded Ihsahn 1998 the band Peccatum, which also Ihriels brother Lord Pz sat for some time on the drums; with this band he published in 1999, the studio album Strangling from Within.

The last Emperor album Prometheus - The Discipline of Fire & Demise (2001) was mostly composed by Ihsahn himself. After the release, the band broke up. In autumn 2005, Emperor were in Oslo for the first time in four years together, and gave their reunion known.

In March 2006, Ihsahn and Ihriel announced to finish the project temporarily and to devote themselves to their solo projects. In April 2006, his solo debut published Ihsahn The Adversary. In December 2007, the first album of the project Harding skirt to be, among other things, also participated again his wife appeared.

Today Ihsahn lives with his wife and his dog in his birthplace of Notodden and teaches music at the local school.
