Iisalmi [i ː sɑlmi ] (Swedish: Idensalmi ) [i ː dɛnsalmi ] is a city in eastern Finland. It is located in the north of the Savo region and has 22 144 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Iisalmi is north of the countryside Savo. The city is the center of the Obersavo ( Ylä- Savo ) region, which occupies the northern part of the historic landscape Savo. History

The parish was founded in 1627 and comprised Iisalmi initially quite Obersavo with today's communities Iisalmi, Kiuruvesi Lapinlahti, Sonkajärvi, Vieremä and Pielavesi.
