Ikhwan

The Ikhwan (Arabic الإخوان, DMG al - Iḫwān, the brothers ') were a Wahhabi movement in Saudi Arabia.

To the founding of the Ikhwan ( Brotherhood ) in the years 1911/1912 is shrouded in many legends. From the official history of Saudi Arabia it is the nation's founder, Abd al- Aziz ibn Saud attributed. Then she was called by him to life, to renew the movement of the Wahhabis. By the admission of members of all tribal boundaries of the particularism of the tribes should be neutralized, which hindered the building of a modern state under the dynasty of Saud. Purpose was the forced settlement of Bedouins in the oases to have easier recruitable troops for the battles against other strains available and so extend the Kingdom.

However, there is also evidence that Ibn Saud has only reinforced an already existing movement. In this movement, young Bedouin settled in religious communal settlements, the Hijrahs at, where they were taught by scholars in the doctrine of Abd al- Wahhab, founder of Wahhabism. The first settlement to have been in al - Artaqiyya 250 km northeast of Riyadh. The so -turned- fanatical faith Bedouin fighters who had little experience with farming, then answered the call Wahhabi preachers for military jihad to rid the Arabian Peninsula of non-Muslims as well as non-strict practicing Muslims. The ministers stressed in particular that, as promised in the Quran that would go straight to paradise in jihad fallen.

Even if the troops of the Ikhwan played a prominent role in the subjugation of the Bedouin tribes and in the war against Hussein of the Hejaz, they were but because of their fanaticism and their conservative attitude to the problem. Your claims to be rewarded for the war effort in the form of land rights in the conquered territory, was not met by Ibn Saud. When she then attacks on tribes took in Kuwait and Iraq, which led to international complications, they were defeated in a military campaign until 1929.
