Il est né, le divin Enfant
Il est né, le divin enfant ( It is born, the divine Child) is a French Christmas carol that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and the announcement by the prophets. Its melody comes from the old French hunting song La tête bizarde.
The tune was first released in the second half of the 19th century in a collection of Christmas carols Lorraine ( Airs of Noëls lorrains ), the organist of the Cathedral of Saint- Dié -des-Vosges Jean- Romary Grosjean ( 1815-1888 ) has put together. The text was first published in Noël's collection anciens (1875 ) by Dom Georges Legeay.
More modern versions of the choir come from David Willcocks, John Rutter and Kurt Suttner. Gabriel Fauré created several arrangements, including for solo voice and organ ( 1888), choir and organ ( 1923) as well as for children's choir and chamber orchestra (1938).
