Il Popolo d'Italia

Il Popolo d' Italia is the title of an Italian political newspaper that was founded in 1914 by Benito Mussolini. The title is inspired by those of the leaf of the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi.

History

Benito Mussolini was excluded in 1914 from the Italian Socialist Party (PSI ) and as chief editor of the party organ Avanti! been replaced because he had entered publicly opposed the decisions of the party for a war Italy's entry on the side of the Entente. It is likely that flowed to finance the creation of Il Popolo d' Italia not inconsiderable funds from France. Mussolini advertised in this journal, which was published in an edition of 80,000 copies in 1915, first priority for entry into the war.

With the accession of Mussolini in 1922, the newspaper was the official organ of the Partito Nazionale Fascista and represented a royalist line. In December 1944, Mussolini sold the seat in Piazza Cavour in Milan industrialist Gian Riccardo Cella.

In 1998, an application for reissue was rejected in Milan. The newspaper was still able to appear in 1999 under the condition that it is not available on open sale, but only for subscribers.
