Il Pordenone

Il Pordenone ( Pordenone * 1484, † January 14, 1539 in Ferrara, also de Corti 's oeuvre, incorrectly called Licinio, actually Giovanni Antonio da Pordenone) was an Italian painter.

Life

Pordenone was formed after the models of his Friulian home and took only about 1510 the influence of Giorgione and Antonio Palma on, without abandoning his bluntness of form treatment, and his passion for dramatic representations. In 1535 he moved to Venice, and in the same year he was knighted by the King of Hungary to the peerage, which is why he adopted the nickname Regillo.

1538 appointed by Duke Ercole II d' Este at his court in Ferrara, he died there in January 1539.

A relative of his was Bernardino Licinio da Pordenone, which from 1524 to 1542 worked and preferably has painted portraits, which are recognizable by the reddish flesh.

Reception

Pordenone has numerous frescoes and altarpieces painted, one of which should be emphasized: the Freskencyklus from the New Testament in San Salvatore to Colalto, the ceiling and wall paintings in the Malchiostrokapelle of the Cathedral of Treviso, in the cathedral of Cremona (1520-1522) and in the Church of the Madonna di Campagna in Piacenza (1529-1531), the altarpieces Madonna between Saints in the cathedral of Pordenone ( 1515), a Madonna with Donors and Saints ( 1526) and the glory of St. Lorenzo Giustiuiani ( Academy at Venice). Of his murals on houses and cloisters in Venice most are lost or half extinguished.
