Il Rovescio della Medaglia

Il Rovescio della Medaglia is an Italian progressive rock band that was formed in late 1970 in Rome.

Band History

Enzo Vita, Stefano Urso and Gino Campoli were initially active in a beat band and eventually founded Il Rovescio della Medaglia. The first singers were Gianni Mereu and then Sandro Falbo, Pino Ballarini but soon came to the band. The debut album La Bibbia published in 1971, the successor Io come io, 1972; both were still deeply rooted in hard rock.

It was only with the arrival of keyboardist Franco Di Sabbatino and Luis Enríquez Bacalov working with was a symphonic progressive rock band from Il Rovescio della Medaglia. The third album Contaminazione based in part on Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and was released as Contamination later also in an English version.

After the end of 1973 equipment had been stolen, the band's success subsided. Ballarini got out, Michele Zarrillo replaced him briefly, mostly the band played without singers. There were other lineup changes. In 1975, still appeared a single, on a new album was announced, which was however not completed before Il Rovescio della Medaglia disbanded in 1977.

In 1988, the band actually resolved itself put on a live album with recordings from the 1970s. In 1993, Enzo Vita formed the band in strongly changed line and took on a new AOR album, which was not published until 1999. In the meantime, Il ritorno was published. With Enzo Vita is the only constant, and several guest musicians Microstorie 2011 was recorded.
