Suzanne's secret is a comic opera ( opera buffa ) in an act of the German - Italian composer Ermanno Wolf- Ferrari. He himself called his work merely a " Intermezzo ". The libretto Enrico Golisciani. Premiere was on December 4, 1909 Munich Court Theatre.

Action

The 30- year-old Count Gil is married to the younger by ten years Susanne for only a short time. When he finds cigarette smell in her private chamber, grabs him by the jealousy. He believes that his wife had a lover. That Susanne frequently an embarrassed air shows when he comes home in the evening, confirmed him in the presumption that they deceive him.

Gil plans to make Susanne a trap, in order to convict of infidelity. He says goodbye to her and leaves the house but returns shortly back to it. He was not mistaken; anywhere in the house he smells cigarette smoke. Furious, he Browsed all objects behind which the supposed rival could hide himself, but finds nothing incriminating. Finally, it is able to convince his wife that his " rival " exists only in cigarettes. Out of sheer boredom she had indulged in this vice.

Gil apologizes to Susanne for his causeless jealousy. Now please his wife, he begins even smoking; and also the dumb waiter decides henceforth to indulge this vice.
