ÃŽle-de-France tramway Line 2

The T2 line of the Paris tram runs southwest of Paris beyond the city limits, mostly on the left bank of the Seine and connects to a length of 17.9 kilometers, the city of Colombes with the business district of La Défense and with Métro station Porte de Versailles in the south of Paris. The route mostly runs on a converted railway line, has on these sections, therefore, the character of a German S-Bahn. The route was opened on 2 July 1997 for World Youth Day and is operated by the Paris transport company RATP.

History

As the tram route between La Defense and Issy was - Val de Seine put into operation on 2 July 1997. A part of the route, that between Puteaux and Issy -Val de Seine, went largely produced from the 1889 opened railway line " Ligne de Moulineaux " on the SNCF carried out a full rail operations until 21 May 1993. Freight traffic on the route was however discontinued since 1992, last serviced operation was the Renault plant on the Île Seguin in Boulogne -Billancourt. After the conversion to the Tramway SNCF handed over the management to the RATP, but the infrastructure remained in their ownership. Railway Reform infrastructure emigrated to the newly created RFF, which owns the track even today.

On 21 November 2009 the first line extension was opened. The line T2 was from her former terminus Issy - Val de Seine towards the east to 2.3 km with four new stops to the southern city limits, the Porte de Versailles, extended, making connection was created for T3 and Métro Line 12. 2012, the second line extension was opened. The line T2 was La Défense towards the north to 4.2 km extended from its former terminus with seven new stations, including one to transfer to the train in the city of Colombes. After crossing the Seine, the line ends in Pont de BEZONS.

Fleet

With the commissioning of the track first trams were used on the type of manufacturer Alstom TFS. Soon, however, showed that their capacity was insufficient. They were therefore submitted to the Line 1 of the Paris tram and replaced by Citadis 302 sets from the same manufacturer. These cars are 32.2 m long and 2.4 m wide and hold 213 people.

Due to the huge passenger rush run this since 2005 as a double traction, bringing the version capacity could be doubled. These additional vehicles were ordered, in which the Scharfenberg coupler is lined at the front and therefore a slight change in the front design was necessary. Subsequently, the older cars were gradually adapted to the appearance of the new.

In 2013, the line encounters T2 again the limits of their capacity: The line is used daily by up to 130,000 people. The purchase of 6 other sets by the RATP has already been approved by STIF. But to the delivery and use their passengers have to wait until the end of 2015.
