Île Jésus

The Île Jésus is an island in the southwest of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is from the Rivière des Prairies and Rivière des Mille Îles the two arms of the mouth of the Ottawa River, flows around. It lies north of the Ile de Montréal and a few kilometers west of the St. Lawrence River. With an area of 242 km ² it is the second largest island in the Hochelaga Archipelago. The city of Laval covers the entire Île Jésus, the urban areas are in the center of the island and on the southern and western shore, while the northern and eastern part is rural.

The island name is derived from the Jesuits (French Compagnie de Jésus ) and was first mentioned in 1636 in a report of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle France.
