Round or Iceland Ile Ronde is an uninhabited island of 22.5 kilometers north-east of Mauritius. It has a total area of 2.14 km ² and rises up to 280 meters in height. The island is of volcanic origin and has a rocky coast.

Previously, the entire island was covered with hardwood forests and palm savannas. After extensive deforestation and the destruction of vegetation by goats and rabbits in the 19th and 20th century only a scanty remnant of 10% today it remained. After allowing the invasive animals removed in the 1980s from the island, round Iceland is now a strictly protected nature reserve. In addition to rare endemic species such as Guenther's gecko ( Phelsuma guentheri ), the Telfair Skink ( Leiolopisma telfairi ) and the round- Iceland - Boa ( Casarea dussumieri ) exists here the bottle palm ( Hyophorbe amauricalis ), with only ten occurring in the wild specimens one of the rarest trees in the world. The wildlife inventory on Round Iceland today is mainly threatened by tropical storms. The bottle palm but today successfully pulled in cultivation. Other rare plant taxa on Round Iceland are Fernelia buxifolia and Dictyosperma album var conjugatum. The formerly endemic on the island Mauritiusboa ( Bolyeria multocarinata ) has not been seen since 1975 and is probably extinct.
