Ilham Aliyev
Ilham Ilham Heydər Əliyev oglu (also Ilham Aliyev, born December 24, 1961 in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR ) is an Azerbaijani politician. He is the current President of Azerbaijan.
Life
After finishing school Əliyev studied from 1977 to 1982 at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and then there took part in a graduate degree. In 1985 he completed his studies with the degree of Master of Arts in History and International Relations. From 1985 to 1990 he taught at the Institute. From 1991 to 1994 he worked in Moscow and Istanbul in economic transactions.
Since May 1994 Əliyev First Vice President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic ( SOCAR ). Since 1995 he has been a Member of Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In December 1999, he was elected as Vice-Chair and 2001 First Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party.
Since 1997 he has also been President of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan. For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was taken in September 2007 in the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
In January 2003 Əliyev was elected Vice- President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council. On 4 August 2003, he was appointed Prime Minister of Azerbaijan. In the elections of 15 October 2003, he was elected to succeed his father Heydər Əliyev President of Azerbaijan. The election was not called by the OSCE and other organizations as free and fair.
Əliyev was confirmed in October 2008, in office. In the boycotted by several opposition parties presidential election Əliyev won 87.3 % of votes. The OSCE described the election as an improvement over previous elections, but it still does not correspond to the international standards. A constitutional amendment in 2009 allowed Əliyev, to compete again on 9 October 2013 re-election. According to projections, he won the presidential election with 84.6 % of votes. The opposition spoke of electoral fraud, the OSCE reported the violation of fundamental freedoms in the election.
Ilham Əliyev speaks Azerbaijani, English, French, Turkish and Russian. He is married to the Members of Parliament and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Arif Qizi Əliyeva ( b. 1964 as Mehriban Arif Qizi Paşayeva ), has two daughters - including the author and activist Leyla Əliyeva - and a son.
Corruption
In December 2012, proclaimed the " Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project " ( OCCRP ) Ilham Əliyev the " most corrupt man of the year ". It was the time the first ever conferred the title of this article
Əliyev was selected on the basis of revelations for this item, which show for the first time well documented, as his family has assumed large proportions of the most lucrative sectors of Azerbaijan, including banks, telephone companies, mineral and construction industry, and that these offers are often associated with the Azerbaijani government stood. Furthermore, it was known to be within two weeks in 2009, 11- year-old son became the owner of nine beach houses in Dubai at that time, with a total value of 44 million dollars. In U.S. diplomatic dispatches Ilham Əliyev was compared to a " mafia crime boss " and is considered by many analysts as a dictator.
Documents published in April 2013 offshore Leaks show that Ilham Əliyevs own daughters since 2008 three companies in the British Virgin Islands. Director of all three companies, the Iranian entrepreneur Hassan Gozal, who receive government contracts. Therefore, corruption is suspected in the case of companies. The daughter Arzu Əliyeva owns the company " Arbor Investment" and her older sister Leyla Əliyeva the companies " LaBelleza Holdings Limited " and " Harvard Management Limited".
