Ilium (bone)

Man

The ilium is widened up like a shovel to the ilium (Ala ossis Ilii ). Its free edge is called the iliac crest or pelvis ( iliac crest ). He runs into the large front iliac spine (spina iliaca ventralis or anterior superior iliac spine ) from. This palpable sting is an important point of reference for the practitioner. Go down two more bony prominences, the tubercle ilicum ( anterior inferior iliac spine ) and the iliopubic eminence ( iliopectineal ). On the inside of the ilium, a bone comb ( arcuate line ), leading to a reminiscent of an ear articular surface (facies auricular ) runs leads, which forms the sacroiliac joint with the sacrum. The outside of the ilium serves as the origin of the facies gluteal Glutäengruppe.

The lower part of the ilium, the iliac column ( Corpus ossis Ilii ) and together with the other two hip bones ( pubis and ischium ) the acetabular cup ( acetabulum, literally translated " Essignäpfchen " because it is reminiscent of the acetabulum of the Romans ).

Other Mammals

In quadrupedal mammals the ilium shows up - front. The neighborhood of inward toward the spine cusp is called cross buttock (tuber sacral ). He wears the facies auricular for the sacroiliac joint. The exterior facing projection is referred to as point of hip ( tuber coxae ).

On the inside of the iliac pillar, the arcuate line extends to the iliopubic eminence, where the ilium to the pubic bone borders. In animals, the notch ischiadaca major and the ischial spine (see buttock) parts of the iliac column.

The acetabulum is formed as in humans, of all three pelvic bones.
