History

Ilmmünster belonged to was founded in the 8th century pin Ilmmünster. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed until the repeal in 1803 a closed Hofmark, whose seat was the pen. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

For Ilmmünsters the story goes back to an early medieval foundation of Canons of very great importance has been. After the transfer of the pin at the collegiate to the cathedral in Munich (1494 ), the latter as a basic rule was the determining factor in the development of the town. An impressive monument of this is still the dominant building of the municipality Arsatius Church with the characteristic stepped gables. The colors silver and blue also point out that the house stood since the 12th century as a Bavarian Wittelsbach rule with Ilmmünster in close connection.

In 1969, the draft of a new municipality coat of arms was made by Max Reinhart of Passau. It has been advocated fachgutachtlich of the General Directorate of State Archives of Bavaria on 22 July 1970.
