In 2006, Iluka Resources was the world's largest supplier of zircon with a share of 35 % and the second largest titanium dioxide with 20%.

History

Iluka Resources was founded by a merger of Westralian Sands and Renison Goldfields Consolidated in July 1998. Westralian Sands was founded in 1954, began in 1959 with mining on Yoganup depot at Capel in Western Australia. 1999 sold Iluka Resources various business lines, including the Westlime Limited, Koba Tin, Copper Thalanga RGC, RGC South Capel and his Narama - coal mine in New South Wales.

In September 2008, Iluka signed a multimillion dollar contract with the railroad transportation company, El Zorro to transport containers of heavy minerals from Portland in the southwest to Melbourne because the transport costs are reduced as a transport on the road. The Chief Executive Officer of Iluka, David Robb, announced that this organization change means a cost reduction of 100%. These were a total of AUD $ 3 million lower costs during 2008 and in the following years.

The profit of the company was in the year 2008 AUD 61.7 million and this was a win already three times in a row. This success was a result of rising prices for zircon and the rising value of the Australian dollar.

In March 2009, Iluka announced the closing of a rutile kiln in Narngulu, which drew the loss of 23 jobs after themselves. This negative development was a result of the global financial crisis from 2007.
