Imishli District

İmişli, also Imishli, is a rayon of Azerbaijan in the east. Capital of the district is the city İmişli. The area is bordered to the south by Iran.

Geography

The rayon has an area of ​​1826 km ². Through the area, the rivers flow Aras and Kura, is also located here, the lake Sarisu. The area west of the Aras belongs to the Mugan Steppe, the area east of the Mil steppe. Larger parts of the districts are below sea level.

Population

The rayon had 2009 113.800 inhabitants. These are distributed across the capital and 51 other locations.

Economy

In the region, especially grain and cotton are grown and operated livestock. There are larger oil reserves, production of building materials and gin.
