In Absentia is the seventh studio album by the British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. It appeared in 2002, Lava Records and WEA Records.

Creation and publication

Chris Maitland left the band after Lightbulb Sun and was replaced by Gavin Harrison 2002. During the recording sessions for In Absentia in the United States and Great Britain Aviv Geffen (vocals), John Wesley were involved (vocals and guitar) and an orchestra. Tim Palmer mixed from the album, Andy VanDette mastered it.

In the U.S., was published in Absentia at Lava Records, in the rest of the world at WEA Records. In 2003, a European Special Edition with three bonus tracks, a double LP and a DVD-Audio surround with two versions of the album appeared.

Tracklist and style

The pieces were written by Steven Wilson; the sixth in collaboration with Richard Barbieri, Colin Edwin with the eleventh.

In Absentia, however, is a melodic album that has less Britpop influences than in the previous Lightbulb Sun, but elements of progressive metal. It can be found in the quieter passages still echoes of Ambient or the art rock of Pink Floyd.

Reception
