In Sorte Diaboli (Latin for, The Devil's Advocate ') is the seventh album by the Norwegian metal band Dimmu Borgir. The album was released in Europe on April 27, 2007 via Nuclear Blast. In the United States, the album was released on the 24th of April.

Concept

In Sorte Diaboli is the first concept album by the band. The story takes place in medieval Europe. Protagonist of the story is the assistant of a priest who doubts only to his faith and then reordering of the dark side and becomes the Antichrist. The story is told in the form of a diary. The idea came up to start each song title with the article The.

Formation

Emergence of the Internet

Already on 6 March 2007 appeared on the album in relevant internet filesharing. The press was sampled with individual downloads instead of promo CDs. The files were provided with a digital watermark. Reaction

The limited European Digipakversion contains the song Ancestral Fever in fourth place. In addition, there is a limited digipak version with bonus DVD. This version contains a 32 -page booklet in which the texts are printed in mirror writing. The booklet is a mirror. On the DVD there is a video clip of The Serpentine Offering, a " making-of " documentary of the video clip and the album, a photo gallery and a media player.

The limited U.S. Digipakversion contains the song The Heretic Hammer in sixth position. The album comes in a cardboard slipcase, because the original artwork was rejected by some retail chains.

The Japanese digipak version includes a bonus cover version of the song Black Metal British band Venom.

Exclusively in the Nuclear Blast Online Shop there is a version in book form with a booklet of leather. In addition, the CD gets both the European and the U.S. bonus track. This version is limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide.

The vinyl version will be released as a gatefold LP, which is included a bonus single which also includes two bonus tracks.
