In the Wake of Poseidon ( 1970) is the second album by the English progressive rock band King Crimson. At the time of its appearance, the band had already changed their occupation, In the Wake of Poseidon is the first album In the Court of the Crimson King but stylistically quite similar.

Music

The music constantly changes between rather soft, ballad-like passages or pieces and fast, energetic and complex of high intensity. The musical theme of Peace (Peace) is in three parts (at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the album ) treated and so provides a framework for the other pieces. The longest number, " The Devil's Triangle ", is based heavily on the first set of " Mars, the Bringer of War " from the orchestral suite "The Planets " by the English composer Gustav Holst, composed 1914-1916. King Crimson had called the piece in 1969 on a live tour, " Mars", the use of this title but was forbidden to them by the legal representatives of the composer. 1971 a short excerpt from The Devil's Triangle was used in the BBC television series Doctor Who.
