In Times Before the Light is the debut album by the Norwegian black metal band Covenant. It appeared in 1997 in murder Grimm.

Creation and publication

The end of 1994, the year after the emergence covenants, took the two band founder with Kharon as a session bass player demo From the Storm of Shadows with three pieces on. Half a year later, in two cast a promo cassette with three other pieces for an advertised debut album. In addition to the six already known pieces four more were added in the fall of 1995 In Times Before the Light. Alex Kurtagić designed the cover.

The album, however, was not published until 1997. In 2002 appeared - now under the band name changed for legal reasons, The Kovenant - via Hammerheart Records a custom built by the band Remix; Head Not Found put the original version of the album with the demo as a bonus in 2007 to new.

Style

Covenant play on the album melodic and atmospheric Black Metal with typical screeching vocals, distorted guitars and lots of catchy keyboard passages. There are similarities to the style of bands like Dimmu Borgir, Troll and Carpe Tenebrum perceptible. The remix of 2002 was accordingly provided the then-current style of the band with new keyboard arrangements, electronic effects and influences from the Industrial Metal.
