India at the 1952 Summer Olympics

India participated in the Summer Olympics in 1952 in Helsinki, Finland in part with a delegation of 64 athletes (60 men and four women ) in 42 competitions in eleven sports. There were two medals ( one gold and bronze each ) to be won. The youngest athlete was the athlete Nilima Ghose (17 years and 37 days), the oldest athlete was the water polo players Birendra Basak (40 years and 176 days). It was the eighth part of the country at the Olympic Summer Games. Flag bearer was Balbir Singh.
