Indianapolis and Bellefontaine Railroad

The Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Cleveland Railroad was an American railroad company in the State of Indiana.

The company was founded in 1848 as Indianapolis and Bellefontaine Railroad (I & B) built a 135 km long railway line between Indianapolis and the State of Ohio border in Union City. For the construction of the track, among other things, Congressman Oliver H. Smith began.

The I & B built the railway line in the Ohiospur of 1473 mm (4 feet 10 inches ), but soon switched to standard gauge. Construction began immediately after the foundation and were completed in January 1853, and opened the route. Together with the Bellefontaine and Indiana Railroad from Ohio a railway line between Indianapolis and Galion was thus realized.

On 19 December 1854, the Company in Indianapolis, Pittsburgh & Cleveland Railroad was renamed. On 22 December 1864, she was united with the Bellefontaine and Indiana Railroad for Bellefontaine Railroad. On May 14, 1868 this company was merged into the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Indianapolis Railway. Today, the railway is part of the network of CSX Transportation.

On 31 May 1850, the company co-founded the Madison and Indianapolis Railroad (M & I) and the Terre Haute and Richmond Railroad, the Union Track Railway ( 1853 Indianapolis Union Railway ) to various railway facilities in and around Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Union Station, among other to operate together.
