The Ponte all'Indiano is a cable-stayed bridge that carries a four-lane road over the Arno and two boardwalks. To the north it merges with another bridge over several train tracks, which is followed by the Amerigo Vespucci Airport leading high street. In the south, the actual cable-stayed bridge is extended by a long approach bridge over the flood plain of the Arno.

Ponte all'Indiano is one of the few two bridges arranged in the center axis of steel pylons, which are slightly inclined outwards. The outer stay cables of the bridge are different than usual, mounted in anchor blocks in the ground, while the inner inclined cables carry the 206 m long bridge deck. The two carriageways should be separated past the pylons.

The track support is 22.4 m wide and consists of two tapered hollow steel boxes that are reinforced over the open central axis away by horizontal truss. These girders carry the outwardly projecting steel plates of the carriageways. While the carriageways have only two lanes, but no emergency lanes or sidewalks, a separate pedestrian bridge suspended under the open midfield. It is connected with the pylons over flat ramps with the riverside paths.

Shortly before the pylons are double concrete pillars that support as both the steel floor beams above the main opening also from then on separate bridge structures for the two secondary carriageways. Their track support each consisting of a reinforced concrete slab on two steel perforated metal supports which are stiffened by diagonal braces and approximately every 35 m are supported by concrete piers.

The Ponte all'Indiano was planned by the Bridge engineer Fabrizio de Miranda, together with the architects Adriano Montemagni and Paolo Sica, who won a contest the city of Florence, with its design in 1968. The bridge was built in the years 1972-1978 Metalliche of Costruzioni Finsider.
