The Indira Gandhi International Airport ( IGI ) ( IATA: DEL, ICAO code: VIDP ) is an international airport approximately 16 kilometers south-west of the Indian capital New Delhi.
The 226 meters, the airport has three terminals and three runways: Terminal 1 is the former Palam International Airport, which is used for the national air traffic. Terminal 2 and especially the new Terminal 3 are provided for international flights. As a main runway is 10/28 used.
-Addressing passengers are handled annually at present more than 28 million mostly domestic objectives, so that New Delhi has to date Guides Mumbai airport exceeded.
The airport serves as a hub for many Indian airlines like JetLite, SpiceJet, IndiGo Airlines and Alliance Air. Air India, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways use the airport as a second hub in addition to the more internationally driven airport Mumbai.
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the airport was connected to the network of Delhi Metro.
Terminal 3
In July 2010, the terminal was put into operation 3 after 37 months of construction. It has an area of 502,000 m², making it the world's eighth largest passenger terminal. The zugebaute capacity of 34 million passengers expected at the current growth in traffic for about ten years ( by 2020 ) are sufficient. Further expansion plans through 2026 provide a capacity size of 100 million passengers.
