Inese Vaidere

Inese Vaidere ( born September 3, 1952 in Jelgava ) is a Latvian politician.

Life and work

Vaidere studied business mathematics at the University of Latvia. There later followed by a postgraduate in the form of postgraduate study, which she finished with the academic degree as a candidate of sciences with a focus on international business. From 1975 she worked at the University of Latvia as an assistant lecturer, lecturer and professor. In 1992 her PhD in economics, and later it was still an Associate Professor of Economics and Professor of Economics.

From 1993 to 1995 Vaidere was first deputy chief editor of LABRIT. After that she worked in the Office of excisable goods and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Latvian Ministry of Economics. In 1997 she was appointed Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, a year later to the environment minister and a year later as a consultant to the Latvian President Vaira Vike -Freiberga. From 2001 to 2002 she served on the Riga City Council and was at this time also deputy mayor of the capital. In 2002 she moved to the Saeima. In the national parliament, she was Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and a member of the Committee on Public Expenditure and Audit.

2004 Vaidere for the party Tēvzemei ​​un Brīvībai / LNNK was elected to the European Parliament, in 2008, she joined the new party Pilsoniskā Savieniba. For this she was re-elected in 2009. 2012 was a merger of the new party Vienotība, where she serves on the Executive Committee.

Awards

  • In December 2008 Vaidere received by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, the Order of Merit 3rd class.
