Leonor of Spain ( Leonor de Todos los Santos de Borbón y Ortiz, born October 31, 2005 in Madrid, Spain) is the first child of the Spanish Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Princess Letizia. Leonor is in second place in the Spanish throne after her father and her younger sister, Infanta Sofia before. As the daughter of the heir to the throne she is addressed as Your Royal Highness, Infanta of Spain.
Succession discussion
The birth of Leonor's sparked a debate about whether the Spanish constitution was to be amended to abolish the precedence of male heirs ahead of their older sisters. A similar discussion took place in Sweden after the birth of Princess Victoria, where for a change in the succession rules. In the event of such a constitutional amendment would in Spain Leonor Princess as soon as her father king, even if they would get a brother. Both the royal family and the leading parties are of such a constitutional amendment, but have so far not agree, they need to be addressed. An amendment to the Constitution regarding succession to the throne ( and other principles) is quite cumbersome: first, both houses of parliament have to decide by a two-thirds majority, then the Parliament will be dissolved. After the election the newly elected parliament must ratify the decision by a two-thirds majority again, then a referendum is necessary so that the constitutional amendment enters into force.
As a queen she would be for Spain as a whole, the first with the name Leonor. However, it could also adopt the name Leonor II, as Navarre in the 15th century Queen Eleanor ( Spanish name: Leonor, Reina de Navarra) possessed.
Baptism
The Infanta was baptized on 14 January 2006 at the Zarzuela Palace by the Archbishop of Madrid, Antonio Rouco Varela. As with her father in 1968, Jordan was used according to the family tradition of water. Your name has been added after the Bourbon tradition de Todos los Santos ( Saints by Allen). Godparents were her paternal grandparents, King Juan Carlos of Spain and Queen Sophia of Spain.
School attendance
Infanta Leonor began her education on 15 September 2008 at the school of Santa María de los Rosales in Madrid's Aravaca. Her father had attended this school.
