Inferior gluteal artery

The gluteal artery inferior ( " lower buttocks artery " ) - in animal anatomy called gluteal artery caudalis - is gluteal in the field of regional artery of the lower limb. It arises from the internal iliac artery.

The inferior gluteal artery in humans or people with the same vein, the inferior gluteal nerve, the sciatic nerve the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve, the pudendal nerve and the internal pudendal artery and vein infrapiriforme through the foramen, so that part of the greater sciatic foramen below of the piriformis muscle. It mainly supplies the gluteus maximus. It forms anastomoses with the superior gluteal artery and the ramus transversus of the lateral circumflex femoral artery.

In the comparative anatomy of the departure of the caudal gluteal artery from the internal iliac artery marks the beginning of the internal pudendal artery.
