Ingebrigt HÃ¥ker Flaten

Haker Flaten Ingebrigt ( born September 23, 1971 in Oppdal ) is a Norwegian jazz bassist.

Life and work

The son of an organist grew up with six musical siblings. He first played the piano and guitar and then switched to bass guitar and acoustic bass. From 1992 to 1994 he attended the Trøndelag Music Conservatory, where he studied with bassist Odd Magne Gridseth, saxophonist Jon Paal - Indian Mountain and pianist Erling Aksdal.

Since 1995 he lives and works as a professional jazz musician in Oslo, where he worked with groups such as The Source, element ( with Håvard Wiik ), the Maria Kannegård Trio and the Petter Wettre trio. Between 1997 and 2004 he toured with Bugge Wesseltoft New Conceptions of Jazz group. Together with Wesseltoft he has performed with musicians such as John Scofield, Joshua Redman and Erik Truffaz.

After that he worked among others with the groups Atomic, The Thing ( Mats Gustafsson and Paal Nilssen with -Love ), the Scorch Trio ( with Raoul Björkenheim ), The Electrics ( Axel Dörner with ), Freefall ( with Ken Vandermark ) Close Erase ( with Christian Wallumrød ) and the Tore Brunborg Kvartett. In addition, he also worked with rock bands such as Motorpsycho and Cato Salsa Experience and appeared at the Rikskonsertene with Palestinian and Indian musicians.

Flaten collaborated on more than forty albums and worked as a musician, inter alia, with Evan Parker, Paul Lytton, Joe McPhee, Joe Lovano, Yusef Lateef, Tony Oxley, Iain Ballamy, Dave Liebman, Chris Potter, Zim Ngqawana, Benoît Delbecq, L. Subramaniam, Billy Cobham, Neneh Cherry and Jean -Luc Ponty.

Published in 2003, Flaten solo album Double Bass. In 2004 he received the Vital pinches on the Kongsberg Jazz Festival.
