Ingombota

Province

Ingombota is one of nine municipalities ( municipios ) that make up the metropolitan region of Luanda, capital of Angola composed. It belongs to the province of Luanda, Angola.

Ingombota has 9.6 square kilometers and about 370,000 inhabitants. For this part of the city is one of the most densely populated areas of the capital, and thus the actual city center. The municipality is located partly on a hill and houses the palace of the president José Eduardo dos Santos, some ministries, as well as most large state companies, such as the oil company Sonangol. In the West, the community is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, on the north by the Bay of Luanda and on the east by Rangel.

The word comes from the Ingombota Kimbundu, a national language of Angola. There are two theories about its origin. It is believed that Ingombota is a compound of the words " Ingombo " and " Kuta " which refers to a place where there is an abundance of okra, a vegetable plant. Another possibility would be the intersection of the words " Ngombo " with " Kuta " which means something like a refuge for bandits (possibly slaves ), the word Ngombota, was in Portuguese to Ingombota.

The district comprises the municipalities of Ingombota, Maculusso, Kinanga, Ilha do Cabo, and Patrice Lumumba.

The Ilha do Cabo is the Flanierbereich the inhabitants of Luanda, with its sandy beaches and breathtaking views over the bay of Luanda. Here is the church of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, the oldest church in Angola.
