Ingrid Bjoner

Ingrid Bjoner ( born November 8, 1927 in Kråkstad as Ingrid Kristine Bjoner Pierpoint, † September 4, 2006 in Oslo) was a Norwegian opera singer. She was known throughout the world as a dramatic soprano, particularly the operas of Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.

Life

Ingrid Bjoner studied in Oslo and at Paul Lohmann in Wiesbaden. When Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, she debuted in 1957 at the Opera House in Oslo. It was followed by engagements in Wuppertal (1957-1959) and 1959-1961 at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In 1961 she received a permanent engagement at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where she worked until 1989. When Wagner 'singer, she sang in 1960 in Bayreuth as Freia, Gutrune and Helmwige in Der Ring des Nibelungen. In 1986 she jumped in Bayreuth short again as Isolde in Tristan und Isolde. Numerous guest appearances, especially with Wagner roles, have taken her to Hamburg, Milan and London. She had from 1959 to 1986 a long association with the Vienna State Opera. From 1962 to 1967 she sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

In the 1980s she led in Oslo and Copenhagen, Director at the opera Elektra by Richard Strauss and sang at the same time the title role. In the season 1989/90 Ingrid Bjoner took quiet and unspectacular farewell to the stage.

After her active career, she was from 1992 to 1998 professor of voice and stage presentation at the Norwegian Academy of Music Oslo LMWH (also Norwegian Academy of Music) as well as at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.

In 1964 she was appointed by King Olav V knighted 1st Class of St. Olav Medal. In 1966 she was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.
