Innere Neustadt (Dresden)

The Inner Town is a district of Dresden in the local exchange area Neustadt. The name derives from the "New Royal City ", the to 1732 rebuilt after a great fire district Altendresden. In contrast to the Outer Neustadt, the core of the Inner Neustadt was within the city fortress and is therefore also referred to as historical Neustadt.

Location

The Innere Neustadt is located in the district of Neustadt opposite the Old Town and the interior is bathed by the river Elbe in an arc. Four bridges (Albert, Carola, Augustus and Marie Bridge ) connecting the district with the south bank. The roads that lead over the bridges that cross the Inner Neustadt and running on the Albert Square to. This is located at the northern end of the district and is the focus of almost all major roads.

In Inner Neustadt several cultural institutions and museums in Dresden. On Albert Square is the Erich Kästner Museum, in the Japanese Palace, the Museum of Ethnology. On the main road is the Kügelgenhaus - Museum of Dresden romance, is in the Rähnitzgasse the Kunsthaus Dresden. Nearby is the Societaetstheater.

The Jägerhof is the home of the Museum of Saxon Folk Art Museum and Puppet Theatre Collection of the State Art Collections.

Also in the Inner Neustadt there are numerous important buildings in Dresden. The reconstruction of the district to 1732 was carried out in Baroque style. Baroque town houses are today mainly on the King's Road. One of unchanged since 1733 building is the No. 15 Great Meißner Straße. The historic complex of buildings that has survived the ravages of war unscathed, forms the central part of the hotel Bellevue.

The Epiphany Church was 1990-1993 seat of the Saxon parliament. Along the banks of the Elbe extend the government buildings of the government quarter and the Japanese Palace. Striking is the archer in the perennial garden at the Neustadt banks of the Elbe.

Also in the Inner Neustadt located on the New Town Market of well-known Golden Rider and the Artesian wells on Albert Square. Also, the currently largest public park in the automatic mode is located in the Inner Neustadt.

By February 1945, there was at the Neustadt market the big New Town Hall, which was not rebuilt after its destruction again and had to make a prefab estate space. A specially created for this initiative has set itself the reconstruction of the Town Hall and the restoration of the New Town to the target market. On Beaumontplatz that was 1728 Knöffel for General Count Wackerbarth as a knight academy built Palais Wacker Barth, whose ruin was 1962/1963 demolished.

Traffic

The major roads are the main street ( pedestrian zone) in extension of the Augustus Bridge, the Albert Street in extension of the Carola Bridge and the King's Road. Other major roads are the Antonstraße ( the extension of the Marie Bridge ) and Bautzen road. In the stretch of road that connects the Brückenvorplätze close to the shore together, are the Köpckestraße and the Grosse Meissner Strasse of paramount importance.

On two east-west and north- south running three routes operate a total of eight tram lines of the Dresden Transport through the district. Most important stop is the Albert Square. Except for the line 81 which is tangent to the interior of Neustadt am Neustadt station, use no city bus lines, but only the regional bus services to the district.

West of the Inner Neustadt is limited by the embankment of remote railway to Leipzig. The Dresden-Neustadt station in the northwest of the district is a remote railway station.

Business and government

Main economic activity in the Inner Neustadt are the catering and retail. As in Inner old town there are many hotels and restaurants in this part of the city of Dresden. The largest hotel is the Hotel Bellevue Westin hotel chain. Both the King's Road and the main road are important shopping malls in the city center of Dresden.

To the Carolaplatz to center the State Chancellery and all ministries of the Free State of Saxony and form the government district. Currently, these are eight ministries, which are located in various historical, but also newly built buildings. Also, the Main State Archives is located in the government district.
