Inomjon Usmonxo‘jayev

Inamschon Busrukowitsch Usmanchodschajew (Russian Инамжон Бузрукович Усманходжаев; Uzbek Inomjon Usmonxojayev ) ( born May 21, 1930 in Fergana, Uzbek SSR ) was a Soviet- Uzbek politician and 1983-1988 First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan.

Life

Usmanchodschajew was born in 1930 in an Uzbek family in Fergana. After completing his schooling, he began at the Polytechnic Institute in Tashkent to study engineering, which he successfully completed in 1955. He then worked in the construction industry. In 1958 he joined the Communist Party. From 1965 to 1969 he was secretary of the Party Committee of the Syr Darya Oblast. From 1969 to 1972 he worked in the apparatus of the Central Committee of the CPSU. From 1972 to 1974 he was Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Soviet of the Oblast Namangan. From 1974 to 1978 he served as First Secretary of the Party Committee of the Andijan Oblast from 1978 to 1983 as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1981 to 1988 he was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU.

In 1983 he was appointed First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of his native republic. He replaced Raschidow Sharaf, who had died after the disclosure of a serious scandal in the cotton industry and had probably taken his own life. 1984 Usmanchodschajew was elected to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. In the course of perestroika but he was himself again accused of corruption, and in 1988 released from his political posts. As First Secretary, he was replaced by Rafik Nischanow.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in the cotton scandal, in which was already been implicated his predecessor late as 1989. In 1990 he was made redundant from custody.
