The INS Talwar is a frigate of the Indian Navy and the first ship and namesake of the Talwar class.
On 19 November 2008, the Indian frigate INS Tabar ( Kriwak -IV) destroyed off the coast of Somalia a " pirate mother ship " after its crew refused a check and had opened fire on the warship. The alleged pirate mother ship later proved to be hijacked by pirates Thai fishing boat. On 28 May 2009 it prevented a grappling attempt by pirates on the cargo ship " Maud " in which two pirates were shot by the crew of onboard helicopter as they tried to climb the hull of the freighter.
