The Institute for Law and Finance ( ILF ) has been founded in 2002 as a foundation of the Goethe University of Frankfurt in cooperation with regulators, banks and law firms to operate teaching and research in law and economics.

The ILF aligns the degree LL.M Finance, as well as a spring course on " Corporate Law in Practice" and a summer course " Law of Banking and Capital Markets".

The executive director of the ILF is Andreas Cahn, Dresdner Bank Foundation Professor, Goethe University Frankfurt. Theodor Baums, DekaBank / Helaba Endowed Chair in Civil, Corporate and Capital Market Law, and Manfred Wundt are directors of the ILF.

LL.M. Finance Course

The ILF offers a one-year post- graduate degree LL.M. (Finance) ( " Master of Laws ( Finance) " ) for graduates with a degree in law or economics at. The German language is not a prerequisite for the program, as all courses are taught in English.

Around 40 highly qualified students are taken each year in the program. The program is aimed at students who are interested in combining theory and practice in international law and finance. Work experience is recommended. The international range of students is particularly noteworthy: Over 20 different countries are represented among the students, where Germany is represented in Intake 2010 with a German. The lecturers come mainly from the business, usually partners of large law firms.

Among the courses are open to students who are, for example: "Law of Corporate Finance ", " Capital Markets and Securities Law", " Financial Intermediation and Risk Management", " Financial Markets and Institutions ", " Corporate Taxation" as well as " Effective Negotiations ". In addition, the ILF offers an extensive range of courses on topics of insurance and capital market law, and Project Finance.

The program is taught at the newly built House of Finance at Campus Westend of Goethe University. There is only the lie during the normal lecture period on weekdays from seminars. In addition, a work-study program option is offered, the study duration will be extended to a maximum of two years.

Since 2008, the Erasmus Mundus program "Master in Transnational Trade Law and Finance " with recognition of the European Union is also offered along with the universities of Deusto, Tilburg and Strasbourg.

ILF students are full members of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, the LL.M. Master Certificate gives.

Placement

The LL.M. Finance degree program includes a special two-month internship with private and public institutions support the ILF. These consist of leading international law firms, banks, auditors, the European Central Bank, and the Deutsche Bundesbank and the Financial Market Authority.

International Exchange Programs

The ILF offers exchange programs with the Columbia Law School, Aarhus School of Business, and the Amsterdam Business School.

Spring Training

The ILF offers each year in March to a two -week course on Company Law. The participants are young graduates with outstanding financial statements, which are close to a career and want to gain further qualifications. The course bridges the gap between university education and practical application.

The Spring course " Corporate Law in counseling practice plus case study ", which the Institute for Law and Finance in cooperation with well-known law firms such as Ashurst, Shearman & Sterling and White & Case and in cooperation with Juve and Lexxion in spring 2012 offers, to a comprehensive insight into convey practically important issues of corporate law advice.

Summer School

The ILF also held in August each year a two-week training course for banking and capital market law, which the Institute is carried out in collaboration with prestigious law firms as Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Hengeler Mueller and Linklaters. This should enable a comprehensive insight into the practice of banking and capital market law and corporate finance in all its facets.

The speakers are representatives from the major law firms and the banking industry.

Faculty

The Faculty of ILF consists of leading academics and experienced practitioners from Europe's banks, international law firms, the European Central Bank, the Deutsche Bundesbank ( German Central Bank) and the Financial Market Authority.

Bodies

Bodies of the ILF are composed of three professors at the Goethe- University Board, the Scientific Advisory Board, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Trustees. Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board is the former president of the European Central Bank, Jean -Claude Trichet, President of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Trustees is the CEO of Commerzbank, Martin Blessing.

Location

The ILF is located in the House of Finance at Campus Westend of Goethe University Frankfurt. The House of Finance under one roof, around 170 scientists from the university departments of finance, monetary economics, and economic and capital market law.

The consistently opened library of ILF ( the House of Finance ) is based on the extensive collection of the former Institute for Foreign and International Economic Law and contains more than 30,000 volumes and over 100 international journals. There is access to the databases of Yuri Data, LexisNexis and Westlaw, as well as on the City and University Library journals in legal, financial and corporate sectors. The library is located near the city and university libraries. The German National Library is just minutes away. In addition, students have access to the library resources of the Deutsche Bundesbank.

The computer room of the House of Finance enables students around the clock access to the Internet and various databases. The building is comprehensively equipped with WLAN. ILF students are full members of the university community and the right to use all the equipment and facilities of the university, the students are accessible.
