Institute of Public Affairs, Poland

The Instytut Spraw Publicznych ( about German Institute for Public Affairs ) is a (party ) independent political think tank in Poland. The IPA was founded in 1995 to support the reforms to modernize the Polish society and to social and political issues to provide a forum for debate.

Achievements

In November 2001, Instytut Spraw was Publicznych by the Pro Bono Publico Foundation Award as " institution of the Year 2001".

Two publications of the ISP caused an international sensation: Druga fala polskich Reform ( Second wave of Polish reforms) and Cztery reformy ( four reforms). In its special edition on Poland, The Economist called these two books as one of three basic sources of information on the subject (in addition to reports from the OECD and Norman Davies ' book ).

The ISP was one of the most active non-governmental organizations (NGOs ) in the preparation of the referendum for accession to the European Union and the referendum campaign. His concept of a two-day consultation enabled the constitutionally prescribed participation of at least 50 % of the population.

Activities

The Instytut Spraw Publicznych conducts research and analysis of society and provides recommendations for policy.

The ISP worked in the past reform proposals for key areas of society and politics. The Institute can draw on a wide network of associates in science, society and politics. The ISP published the results of his work in the form of books and policy papers. The publications are made parliamentary and government officials, the media and NGOs are available. In addition, the ISP organized seminars, conferences and readings.

Objectives

The Instytut Spraw Publicznych aims to:

  • Projects to the region of significant importance to the public
  • To open social debates
  • To identify potential threats to the social fabric and to forecast future problems
  • Provide new ideas for solving current and future political and social problems
  • To act as a bridge between science, politics, media and NGOs.

The Instytut Spraw Publicznych is a member of various structures which link together non-governmental organizations, such as PASOS, EPIN, Euromesco, NDRI and Abroad Group.
